Thy Art Is Murder’s “Squeeze”: A Strong Introduction to a New Era

There’s a reason Thy Art Is Murder’s latest single, “Squeeze,” is popping up in my feed alongside recommendations for Fit For An Autopsy fans. If you’re looking for something aggressive, heavy, and unapologetically deathcore, this one certainly delivers.

I’m not particularly familiar with Thy Art Is Murder’s entire discography, so consider this a first-listen review rather than an attempt to position myself as a longtime fan. I’ve been listening to “Squeeze” between meetings, which means this is very much a gut reaction rather than a deep dive into the lyrics or the band's history.

And be so fr, that's all we need most of the time.

Setting the tone

The opening immediately caught my attention. There’s this almost out-of-tune guitar strum that creates a genuinely eerie atmosphere before the song kicks into some seriously heavy vocals. It’s unsettling in the best way (in that terribly stereotypical deathcore fashion (not complaining)). That little “eeeek” moment feels like something straight out of a horror movie before the song launches into its aggression.

From there, “Squeeze” maintains a pretty consistent level of intensity. The blast beats help segment some of the tonal shifts, while the variations in screams and gutturals add texture to the vocal performance.

But let’s be clear: this is an aggressive song. Nobody is going to argue otherwise.

The vocals and blast beats are very much front and center, and the song knows exactly what it wants to accomplish. There’s no shortage of heaviness here, and the momentum holds throughout.

A song for the screamers

The “lights out” moment? Fucking banger.

And that final drop is solid, although I wouldn’t necessarily call it a massive payoff. It’s more of an expected finish that delivers exactly what you anticipate from a track like this.

Which isn’t a bad thing.

Not every deathcore song needs to reinvent the wheel or leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about the genre. Sometimes you just want something heavy enough to get you through a workout or make you want to throw yourself into a pit.

“Squeeze” feels like exactly that kind of song.

It’s a great pit song. A great gym song. The kind of track you put on when you want some heavy-hitting blast beat aggression and absolutely no one needs to ask whether you’re having a good time.

Introducing a new voice

Where I think this single becomes particularly interesting is its potential role in introducing Thy Art Is Murder’s new vocalist, Jerry Grimefeld.

There are some variations in the screaming and gutturals, but nothing I would necessarily call groundbreaking. Instead, the song feels like a strong, aggressive introduction that puts the vocals front and center.

I’d wager this is Thy Art Is Murder setting the stage for their upcoming shows. They’re heading into a short run of Australian dates this December, and “Squeeze” feels like a solid way to introduce the new vocalist and bring some fresh energy into the lineup.

To be clear, that’s my own speculation rather than a confirmed explanation of the single’s purpose. But it makes sense to me. The song establishes the aggression, gives the new vocalist room to make an impression, and reminds fans what Thy Art Is Murder does best.

Final thoughts

Is “Squeeze” going on my all-time favorite songs list? No.

Is it a solid, aggressive deathcore track that maintains great momentum and gives the new vocalist a strong introduction? Absolutely.

I think the song does exactly what it sets out to do. It’s heavy, it’s energetic, and it has some memorable moments without necessarily pushing the genre into new territory.

For longtime Thy Art Is Murder fans, I imagine the excitement surrounding the new vocalist and upcoming shows adds another layer to the experience.

For someone coming in from the Fit For An Autopsy recommendation rabbit hole, “Squeeze” is a pretty straightforward invitation to get acquainted.

And if you’re looking for something to scream along to in the gym or lose your mind over in the pit?

This one's for the screamerssssssss.
