Lemmy Lightning: Motörhead-Inspired Lemon Cocktail | The Metal Mix Series
Welcome to The Metal Mix, where we blend heavy music and hard drinks- one cocktail at a time. Kicking things off is the Lemmy Lightning, a citrusy, vodka-forward creation inspired by the legendary frontman of Motörhead himself: Lemmy Kilmister.
While Lemmy was known for his love of whiskey (usually with Coke), this drink takes a lighter, zesty approach (aka what I like to call a girlie drink)... perfect for summer or when you want something sweet and refreshing. What better way to do that than with a whole buttload of lemons?
Watch the video here:
What you'll need:
- 1 oz lemon zest simple syrup (thicker like candied zest if you’re sweet like me)
- 1.5 oz vodka (or swap in whiskey for a more Lemmy-approved version)
- 1 oz orange liqueur
- 1 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- Sparkling water or ginger beer, to top
Feeling fru-fru? Garnish with a:
- Sugar rim, or a sweet-and-salty sugar/coarse flaky salt combo
- Lemon twist
I’m personally a sweet cocktail girlie, so I went heavy on the syrup- mine was almost a candied consistency. To make it, I simmered about ½ cup sugar with just 1 oz of water and a bunch of lemon zest until it thickened up. You can absolutely thin this out for a brighter, more refreshing vibe if that’s more your thing.
And yes, whiskey is the on-brand pick for any Motörhead cocktail, but you’re a free human being with excellent taste, so go with whatever gets you rocking n' rolling.
Todays Inspo: Lemmy Kilmister
Lemmy’s legacy is raw, loud, and unforgettable. This cocktail channels that spirit with zesty lemon, a punch of vodka, and just enough sweetness to keep it fun. It’s bold, it’s refreshing, and it goes down easy while you crank Ace of Spades on full blast. It's summertime, hot as hell outside, and it's the perfect thing to end the week off with.Stay tuned for more drinkable riffs in The Metal Mix, and let me know if you try the Lemmy Lightning. Especially if you swap in whiskey, mezcal, or add your own twist!
